Accelerated Cell Testing Systems


A&D’s accelerated battery cell testing system is centered around the AD-7391 high-precision current measurement device. The system provides battery manufacturers, research scientists and OEM decision makers with the capability to evaluate cell life characteristics in significantly less time than with conventional methods.

A&D’s self-contained integrated system requires no programming, and provides precise control of new and existing cycler and environmental conditioning equipment. Unsurpassed measurement capabilities deliver accurate estimations of calendar and cycle life in as few as 10 full charge cycles. Conventional methods typically require many months or thousands of cycles to achieve the same results.

Coulombic Efficiency

The Coulombic Efficiency test provides an evaluation of the permanent loss of capacity in a lithium-ion cell over the course of each individual charge/discharge cycle. This loss of capacity can be caused by unwanted growth in the Solid Electrolyte Interface layer, electrolyte oxidation, moisture/acidic electrode damage, and a myriad of other occurrences. By measuring this loss very accurately during the period of a slow charge/discharge cycle, an evaluation of the expected maximum calendar life of the cell can be achieved.

Enhanced Life Testing

With the enhanced accuracy of cell cycling equipment that is made possible with the HPC system, both cycle and calendar life testing can provide usable information in a fraction of the usual time. With the improved measurement and control provided by the associated software, trends in cell capacity can be measured and determined without requiring months of storage, or thousands of charge/discharge cycles.
