Plate Force Sensor (PFS)


The A&D Plate Force Sensor (PFS) is a six-component sensor that measures forces (Fx, Fy, Fz) and moments (Mx, My, Mz) with high accuracy and sample speeds. It applies A&D’s model-based sensor (MBS) technology and high precision A/D converters to produce digital outputs that have low cross-talk and are robust against electrical noise. It is available in a variety of ranges and accuracy depending upon the intended use.

  • Range: 2-15kN (Fx, Fy), 3-30kN (Fz), 0.7-6kNm (Mx, My), 1-6kNm (Fz)
  • Accuracy: 0.05% (Fx, Fy), 0.03% (Fz), 0.1% (Mx, My, Mz)

  • Temperature range: -10 to 40 °C (14 to 104 °F)

Example Applications

  • Road embedded: Measure the forces and moments generated in the tire-road contact patch
  • Indoor tire testing machines: Measure the forces and moments at the tire hub in various force and moment machines such as flat-belt machine, uniformity machines and rolling resistance test rigs
  • Force balance in wind tunnels: Measure the aerodynamic forces acting on the vehicle in a wind tunnel
