Motor HILS Solutions
A&D Motor HILS contributes to the efficiency of Motor Control Unit (MCU) development. The interface/fail circuit makes it easy to connect MCU and motor HILS, and enables FPGA-based real-time simulation of large scale precision models.
In addition, the A&D HILS platform HELIOS, which is equipped with a rich lineup of I/O boards, enables the construction of a variety of HILS systems.
The easy-to-use graphical user interface (GUI) tool iTest-VSA provides a GUI for setting parameters and monitoring signals on the FPGA. The system comes with standard models required for MCU development, making it possible to provide ready-to-use applications.

Benefits of Implementing Motor HILS
By modeling the actual equipment (motor, inverter, etc.), you can:
- Develop MCU Control logic and proceed without waiting for the development of the actual device.
- Develop and verify on a benchtop without the need to handle large currents and voltages.
- Develop and verify by isolating disturbance effects that need to be taken into account in the actual devices.
- Reproduce failure conditions as many times as you like, which is difficult to do with real machines.
- Shorten development and verification time by automating testing.
- Develop and verify at home through remote control and monitoring.

Large-scale, precision models can be run in real time
- Xilinx’s Kintex-UltraScale enables high-speed computing at up to 200 MHz operation.
- 5 Gbps board-to-board high-speed communication enables multiple FPGA boards to work together, supporting even larger-scale models.
- Large RAM capacity enables implementation of precision motor models such as JMAG-RT and spatial harmonics models.
Multiple motor models can be installed on a single board
- Large-scale FPGAs with multiple motor models and the required number of high-speed analog and digital I/O.
Streamlines debugging process with a variety of verification functions.
- Fault simulation circuit allows the simulation of a short circuit, ground fault, or wire breakage simulating a real circuit.
- The self-diagnostic function enables not only daily inspections but also isolation of problems in the event of malfunction.
- The data logging function enables logging of internal signals of high-speed operations, which can be used for detailed verification and plant model development.
GUI and models can be provided as ready-to-use applications
- PMSM LdLq motor model, inverter model, fault simulation, sensor model (resolver, rotary encoder, current sensor), simple motor load model, and simple motor controller model are provided as standard applications.
- Through a partnership with Toyota Technical Development Corporation (TTDC), which has advanced FPGA implementation technology, JMAG-RT-compatible motor models developed by TTDC can be implemented. In addition, A&D patented technology for automatically and accurately thinning out large RTT files enables simulations with minimal loss of accuracy.
- Validation of MCU’s for hybrid car powertrains.
- Verification of motor MCU’s for electric vehicle powertrains.
- Electric Powertrain Development
- Plant Model Development
