Flat Belt Tire Test Rig
(FBTR)

The A&D Flat Belt Tire Test Rig is an indoor tire force and moment testing machine. It allows the tire to be tested against a flat surface under dynamic conditions.

Rolling Resistance Test Rig (RRTR)

The A&D  Rolling Resistance Test Rig  offers world class repeatability and accuracy through its rigid design and a customized load cell developed using our Model-Based Sensor technology.

Dynamic Contact Force Rig (DCFR)

A&D’s Dynamic Contact Force Rig is unique tire testing technology, which combines a fully dynamic tire test rig with 3D tire patch force distribution measurement.

Tire Testing & Development

In order to shorten development time, simulation-driven development processes are introduced to the tire development in many companies. Simulation allows important analysis and decisions on functionality, structure, and trade-offs to balance competing objectives to be made long before a physical prototype is created. As a result, fewer of these prototypes are required, significantly reducing costs. Accurate and high-quality testing results are needed to support this type of development process.

Challenges

Adding simulation to the development process introduces numerous challenges, including:

  • Model complexity – In order to increase the validity and performance of tier models the complexity of the models need to have accordance detail. More complex models usually have more parameters which need to be tuned based on reference data.
  • Correlation – The main thing when adding simulation is ensuring that the simulation correlates with the physical system that you are replacing. (e.g. for the given inputs, the simulation produces the same outputs as the physical system). This needs valid reference data from the real physical system. Which requests a high accuracy of measured reference and validation data.
  • Validation – As complex simulation models have quite complex inner structure, which is usually not accessible to detailed measurement. The measurement of the boundary conditions at the interface of the tire especially to the ground is of high importance. The forces acting in the tire patch and their exact distribution are of high importance for detailed models.

    To address these challenges, A&D offers a family a set tire test rigs for the R&D and characterization of tires under dynamic operation conditions. The in-house developed Force measurement technology provides highly accurate and dynamic data which is suitable for Simulation parametrization and validation as well as for product validation. In the area of Simulation, A&D is providing high-end real-time platforms allowing to run complex models e.g. in HiL or other simulation environments.
